Cowlick’s Ice Cream shop in downtown Fort Bragg is a must for Mendocino visitors and residents alike. You’ll find their ice cream and goodies available in many local restaurants and markets, but if you haven’t been to the shop, it’s worth a visit! Be prepared to endure a line during peak hours no matter what the weather is like, but don’t be discouraged – you’ll forget about the wait once you step inside this modern take on a classic ice cream parlor.
The atmosphere at family-owned Cowlick’s Ice Cream salutes the traditional 1950’s ice cream parlor, yet maintains a contemporary vibe by combining vintage furnishings with industrial decor. Think Norman Rockwell decorates a new, posh loft space. You can enjoy your ice cream inside, in the immaculate and attractive dining area, or take it with you for a stroll down Main Street. Cowlick’s is in a great location to conclude a fun night out after visiting the brewery, dining in a local restaurant, or seeing a movie at the local theater.
As you arrive, the tell-tale aroma of fresh, handmade ice cream and mouthwatering waffle cones will have your taste buds dancing – even before you try a sample. Cowlick’s staff is excited about their products, and they’re happy to let you sample as much as you like. And you’re going to want to sample a lot – the shop has flavors ranging from traditional Vanilla and Mint Chocolate Chip to inventive Ginger and locally-harvested Candy Cap Mushroom. If you’ve got a serious sweet tooth, the popular “Candy Store Floor” epically combines Butterfingers, Heath Bars, and M&Ms to satiate any craving. On the other hand, if you’re trying to behave while on vacation, you can play it safe with a Mini-portion in a cup!
Cowlick’s Ice Cream is a treasured staple for many Mendocino visitors – some ice cream-loving patrons consider their experience there to be life-changing! It’s not easy saying goodbye to your favorite spots when your vacation is over, so Cowlick’s sells a nice supply of T-shirts and hoodies for the whole family. They take pride in their stellar reputation in town, and they want your ice cream experience to stay with you even after you head back to the place you call home.
Owners Nancy and Bill are dedicated to creating high-quality products using only the best ingredients sourced from as many local farms and businesses as possible. On their website, Nancy boasts she “never grows tired of hearing [their] customers say, ‘This is the best ice cream I’ve ever had!’”
All of Cowlick’s goods are produced in-house, either at the shop or at their local production facility. Despite their dedication to high-quality, local ingredients and an artisanal menu, prices are very affordable. You won’t have to worry about breaking the bank when you inevitably return for a second (or third) visit. With convenient hours of operation between 11am and 9pm, 7 days a week, it’s hard to resist coming back for more!
