Surely, you’ve caught the buzz about the fabulous vineyards in Northern California, but did you know that Mendocino wine country is home to one of the country’s best breweries as well? Beer lovers, this is worth the trip! Anderson Valley Brewing Company, a nationally renowned craft brewery, is located in the small town of Boonville, CA, on Highway 128, a scenic and popular route to Mendocino if you’re coming from the southern half of the state.
For over 35 years, Anderson Valley Brewing Company has sustainably hand-crafted authentic ales and lagers with balance and complexity. Founded in 1987, Anderson Valley Brewing Company has grown to be widely recognized as one of the true pioneers in craft brewing. From the flagship Boont Amber Ale to innovative seasonal offerings like the Blood Orange Gose and Rotational IPAs, every Anderson Valley Brewing Company beer is crafted with purpose and an unwavering commitment to producing world-class beer.
In addition to creating some of America’s favorite beers, Anderson Valley Brewing Company is special because they embrace the community in which they operate. Boonville is known for its unique jargon, known as Boontling, which has been used in Anderson Valley since the late 1800s. Anderson Valley Brewing Company acknowledges this facet of the community by naming many of their beers using Boontling words. Bahl Hornin is Boontling for “Good Drinking” and is used for “Cheers!”
A visit to Anderson Valley Brewing Company is not only fun for beer lovers – there is absolutely something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Even the family dog is welcome! The beautiful grounds feature plenty of peaceful spots for visitors to enjoy a summer breeze with one of their signature Goses in the shade. The brewery recently transformed their Boonville home into a 30-acre dog- and family-friendly “beer park,” complete with outdoor seating, an 18-hole disc golf course, a live music stage and more. When the elements are not cooperating, the Tap Room is well-equipped with plenty of board games to keep you entertained while you sample their impressive beer selection, many of which are only available to taste at the Tap Room.
Anderson Valley Brewing Company is a pioneer in sustainable brewing and became the world’s first solar powered brewery in 2005. The brewery uses endlessly recyclable packaging, sources all of its water from wells on the property, and annually donates a literal ton of spent grain to local livestock farmers to use as feed supplement.
