The story of Drew is the story of a family.
Molly and Jason Drew fell in love with a neglected old apple orchard set in a high elevation just a few miles east of the ocean. They saw potential to create exceptional wines from this exceptional place, where the sun is cooled by the maritime fog, creating a unique environment to grow grapes.
The Drews’ family grew along with their farm. They now have two sons, several sheep, chickens, bees, vineyards, and an apple orchard.
With decades of experience at high profile wineries in northern and central California estate wineries, Jason knew exactly what he wanted to create at Drew Family Wines, farming organically with native yeast fermentation and making wine by hand, in small batches, from individual vineyards to let the wines display the true character of the grapes and their location. Wine & Spirits Magazine named Drew one of the Top 100 Wineries in 2018.
Drew makes fruity and flavorful pinot noir, mainly single vineyard pressings such as Valenti Vineyard and Gatekeepers in the Mendocino Ridge appellation, but also the floral and spicy Fog Eater pinot noir blend. Drew’s syrah is notably complex and elegant. They are also one of the few makers of albariño in the area, a crisp, refreshing white usually seen in Spain and Portugal.
As you might expect from a vineyard created at an apple orchard, Drew produces their own refreshing hard cider. Like Drew’s wine, their cider is organic and made with a traditional approach, including native yeast fermentation. The crisp cider features notes of citrus and green apple, and a hint of its maritime terroir.
