Nestled in bustling Noyo Harbor, Sea Pal Cove is the quintessential beach shack restaurant. Order in the quaint wooden building perched beside the docks, pick up your napkins, utensils and condiments, and take your number to one of the harborside tables, where your food will be delivered. Bask in the sunshine and enjoy the view while you wait. You will be entertained by seals swimming by, seagulls and ravens wheeling overhead, and fishing boats chugging in and out of this working harbor. There is a fire pit for cooler weather, so you can stay cozy and still stay dockside.
The fish or prawn and chips are the signature dishes here, the seafood coated in a light batter and fried to a crunchy golden brown. The fish is local rock cod and the prawns are wild caught. The fries are chunky, crisp on the outside and pillowy on the inside, fried in canola oil with no trans fats. If you’re one of the rare people who doesn’t like fries, you can substitute an extra piece of fish for the fries. The creamy clam chowder is made from a closely guarded family recipe and is gluten free. If you aren’t in the mood for seafood, try the burger or cheeseburger, made with grass fed beef and served with fries on a toasted bun.
Nothing goes better with hot, crispy fish and chips than a cold beer, and Sea Pal has nearly 20 craft beers to choose from, mainly brewed on the west coast, including local North Coast Brewing’s Scrimshaw Ale, Anderson Valley Brewing’s Bourbon Barrel Stout, and, from further afield, Eureka’s Lost Coast Brewing Great White, and Mad River Brewing’s Slammin’ Salmon IPA. Non alcoholic beverages are also available.
